Abel Ang En Pei

I am a PhD student in philosophy at the University of California, Riverside.

My dissertation research is focused on two issues. First, I reconstruct a philosophical debate in Warring States China between Xunzi and Mengzi about human ‘nature’ (性 xing) and the proper approach to its cultivation, with a view towards challenging its received interpretation in the contemporary Anglophone literature. Second, I explain why these findings might be important for philosophers who have sought to bring Mengzi and Xunzi into conversation with contemporary issues about moral psychology and moral cultivation.
